Why Should You Use the AWS DMS Migration Option

Amazon Web Service Database Migration Service – AWS DMS – is a service based in the cloud that helps in seamless migration of databases from on-premises to the cloud or from one cloud provider to another. The condition is that the source or the target database or both should be in the cloud. It is very effective either for one-time database migration or for continual data replication when both the source and the target databases are kept in sync.

Why should you exercise the AWS DMS option?

There are several reasons why organizations choose to use the AWS DMS option.

First, AWS DMS migration can be easily executed as there is no need to install additional drivers and applications for it. The migration is automatically handled by AWS DMS. Once all the necessary parameters are defined in the system, migration with AWS DMS can be started with just a few clicks on the AWS Management console.

Next, when using the AWS DMS option, the source database remains fully functional as changes at the source are continually replicated to the target database. This does away with the need for downtime and is especially beneficial for large data-driven businesses that cannot afford to shut down their systems.
The AWS DMS option is very cost-effective too. Users have to pay only for the computing and storage resources used for migration without any flat fees or up-front charges as seen in other types of database migrations.

Finally, the AWS DMS option supports most commonly-used databases and applications. This helps in the easy migration between SQL, NoSQL, and text-based targets.

AWS Database Migration Service is also used to combine various databases into a single target database.
